Markt Van Morgen: 10 year!
Today I'm sitting down together with Frederik Vermeulen, the catalyst behind De Markt Van Morgen. He's telling me about the plans for 2017, because it's not just any year. This year De Markt is ten years old. De Markt Van Morgen has been an established name in Antwerp since 2007. It's a small market that offers small-scale designers a platform to show and sell their products. This mission has remained the same since the beginning and has been enormously successful. Designers remain enthusiastic about selling products at De Markt Van Morgen but also whenever they get feedback from customers.
De Markt has been organised for the last few years in the Vismijn Square on the Kloosterstraat in Antwerp, and it offers 40 designers a stand to show their work.
Ten years ago, the very first Markt Van Morgen was in North Antwerp, on the Dam. A long time before Parkspoor Noord was there. And also a long time before social media existed. Back then, Frederik managed to find about twenty local producers. It was a revolutionary concept, at the time there were no events for small-scale Belgian design.
Today the submissions for De Markt Van Morgen come streaming in. More than three hundred designers put themselves forward for one of the stands. This year, Frederik is working with the managers of the Berlin shop 'Box Off' to select the designers taking part. And so a fresh breeze blows through the selection and new producers will be featured for the tenth year.
De Markt van Morgen continues in the Vismijn Square on Sundays from 12 noon until 6pm. The atmosphere is relaxed, pleasant and sparkling. Come and discover local talent, drink a coffee and enjoy the conviviality

“I want to give Belgian designers and producers a platform because their products and stories need to be shared. As a marketer, I want to help them find a market.”
